Lilka B. Martinez

Lilka earned her J.D. degree “with great distinction” from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, while working full-time as a paralegal. She is also a graduate and a former faculty member of Gerry Spence’s Trial Lawyers College, which is considered one the most prestigious and selective trial advocacy colleges in America.

An issue very dear and near to her heart, Lilka is committed to promote diversity in the legal profession, being one of the first American Bar Association Family Law Section Diversity Fellows, and a CLEO/Thurgood Marshall distinguished alumna. She currently serves on Council at the American Bar Association, Section of Family Law, and manages the Section’s Diversity Fellowship program.

Since she joined the legal field almost 15 years ago, she has successfully helped numerous clients, both women and men, often at the hardest time in their lives. From low-income Spanish speaking individuals in Sacramento, to successful business owners in Auburn, Placerville and El Dorado Hills, Lilka has effectively represented her clients' interests both in and out of court.

Born and raised in Uruguay, South America, she is fluent in both Spanish and English, having received a degree in English from the Cambridge University. Her undergraduate and graduate studies were in chemistry and pharmacy at the Universidad de la Republica, in Montevideo, Uruguay. After traveling the world, Lilka chose Northern California, more specifically El Dorado County, as her home.

Lilka is known for her thoroughness and attention to detail. She will listen to you, take the time to identify your concerns and lay out a clear strategy to accomplish your goals. Responsiveness to her clients is one of her highest priorities.  She is thoughtful and compassionate, yet tough and assertive. She will use her training in mediation and collaborative practice when possible, but will aggressively protect your interests in the courtroom when necessary.

In her free time, Lilka enjoys traveling, running, mountain biking and playing golf with her husband, Dave.

She prefers Windows over Mac, and she owns an Android smartphone.
